Measuring Chandon’s impact on land worldwide

Context

Chandon, the world-renowned sparkling wine house and a subsidiary of LVMH, is committed to transitioning its six estates — in Argentina, Australia, Brazil, California, China, and India — toward regenerative viticulture. This approach aims to improve soil health while enhancing biodiversity across its vineyards.

Challenge

Chandon lacked concrete data to demonstrate the effectiveness of its regenerative initiatives, making it difficult to measure environmental impact beyond implemented practices and existing certifications.

All our vineyards had achieved sustainability certification — which we were very proud of. But we were missing tangible data, beyond those certifications, to demonstrate and quantify the effectiveness of our regenerative actions on the ground.

The Genesis approach

Chandon partnered with Genesis to assess the environmental impact of its vineyards worldwide, through science-based metrics. The data reveal how each vineyard performs in terms of resilience, carbon, biodiversity, pollution, erosion and water retention - helping identify which practices drive meaningful improvements.

Benefit #1

Reliable and harmonized data

"The Genesis approach allowed us to make the impact of our actions tangible. We are now able to support our vineyard certifications with quantified, harmonized indicators across countries, shifting from a practice-based to an outcome-focused approach."

Benefit #2

A unique information sharing tool

"All our vineyard data is now centralized in a single tool — the Genesis platform — allowing us to disseminate information across all vineyards and countries, and make it easily accessible to everyone, from marketing and operations to agronomists and vineyard managers."
